Career and Technical Education high school students from Oswego County BOCES were awarded medals in 32 separate competitions during the SkillsUSA Section II Regional Competition on Feb 13.
Held at the State University of New York at Morrisville, this annual competition gave Oswego County BOCES an opportunity to compete against 18 other schools in timed technical, trade and leadership contests.

First place gold medals were awarded to the following students for these contests: Collision Repair Technology- Kyle Spoon (APW); Crime Scene Investigation- Aaron Davis (Central Square), Steven Stonesypher (Central Square), and Tracie Murphy (Fulton); Extemporaneous Speaking- Connor Rowell (Sandy Creek); Medical math- Marissa Lopergola (Central Square); Precision Heavy Equipment- Jack Brown (Phoenix); Related Technical Math- Eric Hulbert (Mexico); and Small Engine Technology- Richard Preeman (Mexico).
Second place silver medalists were awarded to the following students for these contests: Basic Health Care- Alexandria Courtwright (Mexico); Carpentry Assistant- Scott Wells (Fulton); Collision Repair Technology- Karley Hilton (APW); Junior Cosmetology- Lindsay Rollson (APW); Customer Service- Jason Nipper (Phoenix); Early Childhood Education- Haley Besaw (Phoenix); Internetworking- Perrin Ogden (Fulton); Job Skills Demo A- CodiAnne Salzman (Sandy Creek); Masonry- Jonathan Wall (Oswego); Nursing Assistant-Caitlynn Miller (Central Square); Precision Heavy Equipment- Cullynn Morley (Central Square); Promotional Bulletin Board- Nicole Carvey (Mexico) and Samantha Ingersoll (Fulton); and Restaurant Service- Kelsie Wilson (APW).
Third place bronze medals were awarded to the following students for these contests: Action Skills- Kristin Hartle (Fulton); Carpentry Assistant- Kenny Lambert (Central Square); Collision Repair Technology- Troy Richardson (Fulton); Computer Maintenance Technology- Eric Swart (Fulton); First Aid CPR- James Peet (Mexico); Internetworking- Logan Aubeuf (Fulton); Job Interview- Kayla Munger (Fulton); Nail Care- Sckyllar Lewis (APW); Power Equipment Technology- Timothy Rose (Fulton); Quiz Bowl- Gabryel Fortino (Central Square), Stephanie Seeley (Central Square), Will Bates (Oswego), and Donald O’Bryan (Fulton); Welding- Dustin Jay (Mexico); and Crime Scene Investigation- Dallas DeNise (Hannibal), Tyler Bliss (Fulton) and Kati Turner (Pulaski).

Oswego County BOCEs students will go on to compete in the upcoming State SkillsUSA Competition April 23-25 at the New York State Fairgrounds.
SkillsUSA is a national organization that provides quality educational experiences for students in leadership, teamwork, citizenship and character development. It builds and reinforces self-confidence, work attitudes and communications skills.
It emphasizes total quality at high ethical standards, life-long education, pride in the dignity of work, and promotes the involvement in community service.
Students who participated in the Feb. 13 competition were also involved in a community service project. BOCES students took items to the Crouse Community Center nursing home next to the Morrisville campus.
