FULTON – Mary Giroux explained the Canine Companions for Independence Program to Nancy Kush Ellis of the Fulton Rotary Club during a recent meeting.
A non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization, Canine Companions for Independence trains retrievers to enhance the lives of people with disabilities.
As a volunteer puppy raiser, Giroux helps train the dogs with basic skills before they’re evaluated for professional training to be teamed with a person with disabilities.
CCI does not charge for its services.
Money is raised through fundraising and volunteers are involved in the training.
