AUBURN, NY – MARCH 15, 2024 – Cayuga Centers announces an upcoming Foster Parent Pre-Service Training, which will take place virtually on April 9th via Google Meets. The course consists of three-hour sessions offered twice a week for five weeks. These classes are part of a training program that is offered every six weeks, aimed at preparing foster parents on how to provide supportive loving homes for children and youth in need.

Cayuga Centers seeks compassionate individuals from Cayuga, Onondaga, Oswego, and Oneida counties to participate in the training. The Foster Parent Pre-Service Training Course will provide education needed to foster a child, including understanding the role of a foster parent in the treatment plan of youth in foster care.

Participants will also learn about our Treatment Family Foster Care program, the essential knowledge and skills needed to become a certified therapeutic foster parent, and the support offered to foster parents in the program. Individuals will receive certification upon completion of the course.

In 2021, NYS had more than 16,000 kids in foster care but only a little over 11,000 foster homes. Cayuga Centers offers Treatment Family Foster Care, which is a research-informed, multi-tiered team approach for children and youth who need high levels of support due to trauma they have experienced.
