Celebrate Spring Break with Screen-Free Activities April 12-20

OSWEGO COUNTY – Looking to enjoy a fun, educational spring break without traveling? Disconnect from electronic devices and re-connect with each other by participating in Screen-Free Week! From Saturday, April 12 to Sunday, April 20, organizations throughout Pulaski, Sandy Creek, Richland and Williamstown offer a variety of non-electronic activities for families to enjoy during the school break.

Ainsworth Memorial Library

Throughout the week, the Ainsworth Memorial Library offers drop-in STEM, writing and craft activities, as well as library scavenger hunts. All activities are free. On Saturday, April 12, children aged 7 to 8 can join the library for a “Make Your Own 3D Keychain Class” at 11 a.m. Registration is required and can be made by calling the library at 315-387-3732.

On Monday, April 14, preschoolers can attend Story Hour at 10:30 a.m., and on Tuesday, April 15, the library welcomes people of all ages for “Make Your Own Friendship Bracelet” at 2 p.m. Kids and teens won’t want to miss “Building Ping Pong Ball Roller Coasters” on Thursday, April 17 at 2 p.m.

On Friday, April 18, the library hosts a variety of activities, including “Gel Plate Exploration” for adults and accompanying kids at 11 a.m.., “Found Poetry” for teens and adults at 2 p.m., and “Foil Art” for kids and teens at 4 p.m. On Saturday, April 19, kick-off the weekend with an Easter egg hunt for kids at 10:30 a.m.

Located at 6064 S. Main St., Sandy Creek, the library is open on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Half-Shire Historical Society

Join the Half-Shire Historical Society on Tuesday, April 15 for a free magic show! David and Paul Jackman of The Twin Magicians will perform at 1 p.m., and a light lunch will be provided for children beforehand. After the show, kids can enjoy ice cream sundaes. There will also be face painting from noon to 2 p.m. The Half-Shire Historical Society is located at 1100 Co. Rte. 48 in Richland.

Selkirk Shores State Park

Selkirk Shores State Park hosts activities all week, including a storybook trail starting on Frog Pond trail and ending on Goosefoot trail. On Saturday, April 12, join Selkirk for a guided scavenger hunt bingo. Participants should meet at the park office at 9:45 a.m.

People can stop by the office between 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. April 12 through April 20 for free popcorn and outdoor activity sheets. Families can hike, picnic, or just enjoy the outdoors! Selkirk Shores State Park is located at 7101 NYS Rte. 3, Pulaski.

 

Williamstown Public Library

Join the Williamstown Public Library for its Easter egg hunt on Sunday, April 20! The free event is offered from 1:30 to 3 p.m. and includes an egg hunt, story time, library card registration, free books, a craft, a snack and prizes. The Easter egg hunt is open for kids aged 4 to 10. The library is located at 2877 Co. Rte. 17, Williamstown.

Salmon River Fine Arts Center

 

Join the Salmon River Fine Arts Center for free activities on Thursday and Friday, April 17 and 18 from 1 to 3 p.m. and on Saturday, April 19 from 10 a.m. to noon. Activities include a book swap, creating bookmarks, and crafts. The Salmon River Fine Arts Center is located at 4848 N. Jefferson St., Pulaski.
