Central Square Central School District Provides Update On Absentee Ballots

CENTRAL SQUARE – The Central Square Central School District has sent the following letter out to Central Square families in regards to a change absentee ballots.
Dear Parents/Guardians,
- Yesterday, I informed all parents/guardians that Governor Cuomo made an announcement on Sunday regarding a change to his earlier executive order pertaining to the timeline for voting for the school budget/Board of Education election, but he had not released the actual executive order yesterday.
- Today, (June 8) the Governor issued the executive order (202.39) at 10:30 AM which provides an extension of the timeline for districts to receive absentee ballots by mail until June 16 at 5 PM, however, he kept the original deadline of June 9, 2020 at 5 PM for the Board Clerk to have any ballots that are delivered in person to be in her possession (at Central Square Intermediate School). The Governor’s latest executive order means that no school district in NYS can accept ANY ballots dropped off by voters in person after 5 PM tomorrow (June 9). Unfortunately, we will have to tell any voters that show up with their ballots in hand that they have to actually mail the ballot to us.
We recognize how strange this is, but please understand that we must comply with these executive orders.
- On March 13 our lives were rocked by COVID-19, as teachers were forced to transition to distance learning literally overnight. This not only required a herculean effort by our staff, it required all parents/guardians to supervise distance learning in their homes on top of their regular day to day responsibilities. We are extremely proud of our caring and dedicated staff and equally proud of all of the parents/guardians that supported their children and the District throughout this unprecedented time in our history. We were able to provide thousands of meals to all families that needed food and the community played a key role in that. Thank you for all of your continued support. “As one we rise, together we soar.”
