CENTRAL SQUARE – “Our doubts are traitors and make us lose the good we oft might win by fearing to attempt.” –William Shakespeare

Paul V. Moore students took this quote to heart and threw caution to the wind as they recited excerpts from some of Shakespeare’s most famous works, in the school’s Twelfth Annual Shakespeare Public Speaking Competition.
Students were challenged to read, analyze and perform a selected monologue or sonnet from William Shakespeare.
In this battle of spoken word, students were tested not only on their memory, but also public speaking and their ability to emote to the audience.
Rebecca Moran took third place with an excerpt from Twelfth Night, Ryan Merkel took second place with an excerpt from Othello and clinching the first place victory was Gabby Moran, who recited a piece from Merchant of Venice.
Moran will now go on to compete in the Branch Competition to be held on March 11 at Syracuse Stage’s Archbold Theatre.
