OSWEGO COUNTY – As part of the CiTi Community Connections, an initiative that partners CiTi students with community members on regional service projects, more than 100 students from the Center for Instruction, Technology & Innovation took part in an Endangered Species Cleanup Day, partnering with the Oswego County Youth Bureau/Parks & Recreation and Friends of the Rosamond Gifford Zoo to improve and focus on Independence Trail – a local trail system in Oswego, NY widely used by members of the community.
Students from a wide range of CiTi Programs including CTE Advantage, Work Study, STRIVE Middle School, STRIVE High School, Volney STRIVE, Bridges to Success, A+ Elementary, CTE Agriculture, CARE/CARE Plus, P-TECH and Women in Trades Club worked collaboratively towards improving environmental conditions of the trail systems. Their efforts included clearing trail pathways of excess wood, shoveling gravel to refresh the trails’ appearance and walking ability and removing trash inside the park and trail systems.
With a diverse group of students from various programs, their skill sets contributed significantly to the success of the cleanup. Students from each program were able to apply their skills and knowledge in applicable ways to benefit and give back to the surrounding communities they reside in.
The efforts of these students, along with support from the Oswego County Youth Bureau and friends from the Rosamond Gifford Zoo, will be greatly appreciated by the community who utilize these trail systems.
