CiTi’s Nursing Assistant Students Receive Ceremonial Pins

MEXICO – High school students from throughout Oswego County were honored with a year-end pinning ceremony that signified their successful completion of the Career and Technical Education Nursing Assistant program at the Center for Instruction, Technology and Innovation.

Students reflected on their accomplishments from throughout the two-year program, in which they learned how to apply classroom lessons in work-based rotations at area health facilities.

A majority of the 27 Nursing Assistant program graduates passed their New York State Nurse Aide Certification exam and were presented with official CNA pins during the graduation ceremony.

Several of the students received special recognition from their peers for exhibiting qualities it takes to become a nursing assistant, such as being the best caregiver, nice and outgoing, hardworking, generous, showing effort, helpful, spirited and caring.

CTE Nursing Assistant valedictorian Haley Heppell and salutatorian Taylor Storrs led the group in reciting the Nursing Assistant Pledge.

Following the ceremony, graduates, their families and friends, Nursing Assistant teachers, clinical instructors and other CiTi staff members enjoyed refreshments, conversation and photographs.

Students who passed the state exam have left CiTi prepared to begin a career in nursing.
