CiTi’s STRIVE Students Collect Donations For Animals In Need

MEXICO – Within the STRIVE High School at the Center for Instruction, Technology and Innovation, acts of kindness have been offered one paw at a time.

Teachers Helen Perth, Marian Becker and Barb Kickbush worked with the students to hold a pet donation drive, which reached several CiTi departments.

All 19 students in the Exceptional Education high school program participate in a full-year, half-credit community service class that has opened up their world of giving.

Donations of towels, blankets, bedding, dog and cat toys, dog and cat food, collars, leashes, food dishes, animal clothing and other items were recently collected by STRIVE high school students until March 9.

A few of those students will travel to the Oswego Animal Shelter with some of their teachers to drop off the goods and meet some of the furry friends that will benefit from their generosity.

Perth said both the recent project and classwork has helped the students develop a general sense of community and the willingness to do kind gestures for others.

Random acts of kindness around CiTi have been completed by the STRIVE students, as has a positive rock project and other ways to connect the students with the importance of doing well for others.

Becker said it’s all all about instilling the importance of giving in each student.
