FULTON – A Clean Sweep took place recently. It had been delayed slightly due to previous high water, current and weather, but was well worth the wait.

Warm temperatures and low water levels made for a safe Clean Sweep.
Nine people paddled their kayaks and canoes around the Battle Island area of the Oswego River and Canal.
A majority of the litter picked up was plastic bottles and beverage cans.
A tire was collected, floating near shore and as usual, the odd item or two were found.

Although a relatively small item, the deflated mylar balloon has become a big litter problem.
People let them go, they fly and drift, then deflate and drop and become caught or entangled in grass and brush.
