Scores were high, and close, at the third and fourth grade Fairley Elementary Battle of the Books.

Five teams competed in two eight-question rounds, scoring four points for every correct book title and eight points for every correct title and author.
“I don’t believe we have ever had a year where all the scores were this high,” said librarian Marie Stroup.
At halftime, the Traveling Readers and Smarties teams were tied for first place.
The reading list included titles like “The Magic Half” by Annie Barrows, “Melonhead” by Katy Kelly and “Sophie Simon Solves Them All” by Lisa Graff.

One question was, “In which book is one of the characters best known titles “Cornflakes Forever?” All teams scored correctly with the answer “Dear Max” by Sally Grindley.
The Traveling Readers proved victorious, scoring 15 out of 16 questions correct; team members were Jacob Remillard, Kiley Emmons and Ashley Miceli.
“I knew they were going to do well, they really know their books,” said their coach and reading teacher Kathleen Babbitt.
