OSWEGO – Oswego County Opportunities (OCO) Services to Aid Families program, the sole domestic violence and rape crisis provider for Oswego County, offers both residential and non-residential services to victims and survivors. The support that SAF provides to woman and children affected by domestic violence served as an inspiration to employees of Constellation Nine Mile Point Clean Energy Center.

With April being National Volunteering Month, Kelly Gatslick, a member of the Nine Mile Point Women in Nuclear chapter, chose to support OCO’s SAF program.

“In recognition of National Volunteering Month employees at each of our sites organize a major event that the sites backs, said Gatslick. “Crystal Burke, who assisted me in organizing the project and I decided that since we are both women in a male dominated industry we wanted to support a group that primarily aids women and children in our community. In the past I had worked with Jill Lyon, who is associated with OCO. When she suggested the SAF program we knew it was a perfect fit.”

With the employees’ willingness to get behind the project, and their exceptional generosity, we received hundreds donations ranging from personal hygiene items to clothing, blankets, and even small appliances. SAF is a great program and supporting it is an excellent way to get people involved in helping those in our community that need its services the most, women and children. We look to do more of this in the future and hopefully have others as inspired as we are to lend their support to such a worthy program as SAF.”

“Constellation’s Nine Mile Point (NMP) Clean Energy Center employees are always so proud to assist neighbors in Oswego and the surrounding communities,” added NMP Clean Energy Center Site Vice President Pete Orphanos. “Our team motto is ‘Pride in the Point.’ Kelly, Crystal, the WIN Team and the NMP employees once again demonstrated that pride goes far beyond our plant’s owner controlled area with their donation of time and materials. Our warmest regards to OCO and the many, many services they provide in the community. We’re proud to be able to assist.”

The items donated by of Constellation Nine Mile Point Clean Energy Center employees will be available to the hundreds of women and children that access services through SAF.

“I was overwhelmed with the amount of donations we received,” said Coordinator of SAF Client Services Karen Merrill. “Last year we provided services to 677 survivors, answered more than 6,400 hotline calls, and provided 2,744 bed nights to 71 families at the SAF domestic violence shelter. “The generous donations from Constellation Nine Mile Point Clean Energy Center’s employees will go long a way in helping to meet the needs of those we serve.”

If you or someone you know is a victim or survivor of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual violence, and stalking, please call SAF’s Crisis Hotline at (315) 342-1600. The hotline is available 24 hours a day and is free and confidential.
