OSWEGO – The Oswego County Health Department recently presented local pediatrician Dr. Shashikant Bhopale a certificate from the New York State Health Department in recognition of his patients’ high immunization rates.

The award is presented to practitioners who achieve 90 percent or higher in having their 19- to 35-month-old patients fully immunized by ACIP (Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices) guidelines.
Dr. Bhopale has an immunization rate of 93 percent.
“Thankfully, due to vaccinations, many of the diseases that vaccines protect us from are not seen frequently in the United States, but they still exist in many parts of the world,” said Deborah McCarthy, immunization coordinator for the Oswego County Health Department. “Recently diseases such as Zika have shown us how easy it is for travelers to bring illnesses home with them to the United States. We need to stay vigilant. Vaccinations not only help those that receive the vaccine, but also help protect those that may not be able to be vaccinated due to their age, a medical condition, or allergy.”
Dr. Bhopale’s office is located at 33 E. First St. in Oswego.
He has been specializing in pediatrics for more than 30 years.
