CSSD Alert: Friday Will Be An Early Dismissal Day

CENTRAL SQUARE – Following is a message from CSSD Superintendent Thomas Colabufo regarding impending weather warnings and an early school dismissal for Friday, December 23:

Dear Parents/Guardians:
We have been monitoring the weather that has been forecasted for this Friday throughout the week to see if the extreme drop in temperature predicted to hit our area on Friday, December 23, would remain in place.

Originally, they were forecasting a temperature drop of 30 degrees with rain freezing over around 1:00 p.m., however, there are forecasts now showing that it is possible that the rain freezes over as early as 10:00 a.m.

As a result, we are scheduling an early dismissal for Friday, December 23. There will be no PM UPK and no PM BOCES for Friday, December 23. We want everyone to know that at the very least, Friday, December 23, will be an early dismissal day.

However, we will be monitoring the forecast tomorrow, and if the freeze over is forecasted to occur in the morning hours on Friday, then I will call a snow day for Friday. We have already informed our staff to have their
holiday celebrations on Thursday just in case Friday ends up being canceled.

The early dismissal schedule for Friday, December 23, 2022 is as follows:
Central Square Middle School – dismissal at 10:25 a.m. (CSMS STRIVE Program – 11:00 a.m.)

AM BOCES – dismissal at 10:10 a.m.
Paul V. Moore High School – dismissal at 10:50 a.m.
All elementary schools – dismissal at 11:45 a.m.

We are doing this early for the following reasons:

There will be no after school or evening activities for Friday. Making sure that all students are home prior to the freezing temperatures is very important to assure their safety.

We in Oswego County have grown accustomed to the quickly changing weather conditions, and if tomorrow (Thursday), the forecast for Friday calls for the freeze over to begin during the morning hours, then our scheduled early dismissal day on Friday will become a snow day, and I would inform all staff, parents, and the news outlets similar to all previous school cancelations.

On behalf of the Central Square School District, we are wishing all of you a safe and happy holiday recess, where you can enjoy some quality family time. We will see you back on Tuesday, January 3, 2023, following the break.
Sincerely,

Thomas J. Colabufo
Superintendent
