FULTON – Cub Scout Pack #715 met at VanBuren Park in Fulton on Wednesday at 6:30 pm, where they learned the military history of a flag pole, along with the symbolic name of each part of the pole.
Before taking on the painting task, Manuel Aguzar – pack #715 leader spoke about the painting rules and reinforced the the main rule of “let’s have fun”.
After the first pole was painted, the pack got in a single file line and walked to the VFW #569 pavilion (about 2 blocks). The pavilion had two flag poles to paint. Sixth ward Councilor for City of Fulton, Ryan Taylor gave a quick lesson on what the VFW is all about and what it represents.
The paint was sold for the project at a reduced price by Burkes Home Center, Fulton location. City Councilor Fourth ward, Jeff Cobb donated paint rollers, trays and paint buckets. Andy’s Antiques and Collectibles donated paint brushes, trays, popsicles, and bottles of water.
The pack will be placing plaques, inscribed with “Cub Scouts Pack #715” at each of these locations.
“This was a great opportunity to young children involved in the community. When they grow up, they can take their children to these locations and tell a great story” said Council Ryan Taylor.
