Fairgrieve Elementary School first graders celebrated the National Education Association’s Read Across America Day, which falls on Dr. Seuss’ birthday of March 2.
Students in Lynne Field’s first grade class wore Thing 1 and Thing 2 blue construction paper hair and paper plate name tags.

Students in both Beth Hudson’s and Becky Crisafulli’s first grade classrooms wore paper Cat in the Hat red and white hats.
Teachers used lessons aligned with the first grade English Language Arts and Math curricula, to have their students participate in a variety of activities leading up to Dr. Seuss’ birthday.

Students searched through a Dr. Seuss book with a partner to find rhyming words, created a graph using colored Goldfish crackers as a play on the book, “One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish,” read books as a class, wrote about whether they would let the Cat in the Hat in their house, and completed word finds, among other learning activities.
The first graders will wear their fun costumes during Morning Express on March 4 when there will be a short performance of Seussical Jr.
