Fairgrieve Elementary School students and staff members recently collected funds to purchase fresh produce from local vendors for its upcoming Harvest Festival.

There, students will learn more about growing vegetables and why fresh produce is an important part of a diet. To help understand that concept and the need of local families, Fairgrieve welcomed guest speaker Helen Hoefer, community services director of Oswego County Catholic Charities.
She explained that every coin and dollar raised will purchase delicious and nutritious vegetables that needy families can use to create healthy meals.
Hoefer said any help is appreciated since the local food pantry serves 320 families each month.
Principal Jean Sampsell said the monetary collection is one of four community service projects the school participates in each year.
