Fairley Students Learn About Respect

R-E-S-P-E-C-T find out what it means to Hannibal Central School District.
That’s exactly what Fairley Elementary School students learned during an assembly about respecting others, personal property and public property.
Throughout the school year, students will channel the school’s theme of being on the Respect and Responsibility Railroad, and learn how to embrace being respectful and responsible.
During the recent respect assembly, fourth grade teachers Andy Matteson and Val Stuart, third grade teacher Deb Kenney, and reading teacher Nikki Raycraft utilized student helpers to tell how students can respect adults, public property and private property, while some shared how adults in the school also can respect students.
“I show respect for property when I ask to borrow something and return it on time,” one student said.
A little bit of kindness goes a long way was another message given by Stuart.
“Your thought and what you’re thinking is private; once you act on them it becomes public,” she said. “Stop, think and act with respect.”
The assembly concluded with students cheering and clapping as the school’s teachers sang and danced along to ‘Respect,’ by Aretha Franklin.
