The Greater Syracuse Honors Youth Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band will present a concert in Setnor Auditorium in Crouse College on the Syracuse University campus on Sunday, October 4, at 1 p.m. The concert is free and open to the public, and free parking is available in the Irving Garage.
Students representing 20 Central New York high schools are nominated for membership in the ensembles by their band director, and they are among the finest musicians from their respective high schools. The students rehearse together on four Sunday afternoons in September in preparation for the final concert performance. Hannibal High School senior Elizabeth Carvey is a member of the Honors Youth Wind Ensemble, and sophomores Suzanne King, Mackenzie Malone, and Michael Miano are members of the Honors Youth Symphonic Band. The ensembles are conducted by Dr. Bradley Ethington, director of the Setnor School of Music at Syracuse University, and Professor Justin Mertz, assistant director of bands and director of the Syracuse University Marching Band.
