The inaugural event for seventh and eighth graders featured an introduction to college studies, a tour of the college’s Fulton campus, career discussions and a presentation on safety and social media.

A favorite breakout session of the day for students included hands-on learning opportunities with animal brains, hearts, lungs and kidneys.

Students also engaged in reviewing choices of successful college students during a session where they learned to be masters of self-management.

Janice Scott, resource coordinator of the Fulton Community School initiative, said it is important for junior high school students to have early connections with colleges so they realize there is a purpose for continuing studies beyond junior high and high school.

Danielle McMahan, CCC admissions representative, said the exposure to a college campus at a young age will more likely interest students in striving to achieve higher education.

One student in the group said she’s already saving money to attend college.
