Fulton Lions Club Installs New President; Weston Receives ‘Melvin Jones Fellow’ Honor

FULTON, NY – The Fulton Lions Club installed its new slate of officers for 2018-19 and presented club awards for the 2017-18 club year at its June 21 meeting.

Lion Robert Weston was honored as a Melvin Jones Fellow, Lions Clubs International Foundations’ highest form of recognition to acknowledge an individual’s dedication to humanitarian service.

Zachary Merry succeeds Michelle Stanard as president.

The Fulton Lions Club installed its new slate of officers for 2018-19 and presented annual awards recently. Back row, from left: Lion Douglas G. Other officers installed included: David Guyer, vice president; Michelle Stanard, secretary; and Michael Reardon, treasurer.

Lion Douglas G. Russell of Liverpool, past district governor, zone 20-Y1, presided over the installation.

Other positions installed at that meeting include: Susan Daratt, assistant secretary; Ron Browning, assistant treasurer, Fred Aldrich, membership chair; Geoff Sawyer, lion tamer, Mark Pollock, assistant lion tamer; Gail Holmes, tail twister; Brett Tallents, assistant tail twister.

Steve Chirello, David Dingman, Len Kellogg and Dennis Rupert were elected to the board of directors.

Past President Guyer received the Lion of the Year award, and Past President Leo Chirello, with more than 40 years of service to the club, received a special certificate of recognition.

“We are extremely delighted to honor Bob Weston as a Melvin Jones Fellow,” Stanard said. “He exemplifies everything this honor stands for with his sterling record of service to our community, and as an outstanding member of our club. Melvin Jones Fellows are firmly committed to finding ways of improving the quality of life in their local communities and in the world community.”

“Chartered in 1953, our club continues to be one of the most active in our district. We look forward to our upcoming Charby’s Duck Derby (September 9), to kick off our next year of service to the greater Fulton community,” Stanard added.

The Fulton Lions Club provides financial assistance for those in need of eyeglasses, eye exams, and hearing aids to residents in the Greater Fulton area.
