FULTON – Families of Fulton sixth-graders recently flocked to the Fulton Junior High School to learn more about what to expect as the elementary students transition to middle school.

Families of Fulton City School District sixth graders visit the Fulton Junior High School during the recent transition night to inform the incoming seventh graders and their families about what to expect in middle school.

The cafeteria was jam-packed with sixth-graders and their families who sought information about preparation for high school diploma requirements, FJHS clubs, activities and sports; as well as required health information for incoming seventh graders, FJHS support systems and a slew of other pertinent topics.

The night also served as a preview for all elementary schools coming together for the first time before the students join each other in the fall for expanded horizons, academic opportunities and friendships.

Elizabeth Stoddard, FJHS assistant principal, said the transition night is one of her favorites because she “gets to see all of the new faces coming in.”

She welcomed the GRB Class of 2025 by reviewing required seventh grade coursework, before FCSD Executive Director of Instruction and Assessment Elizabeth Conners detailed how the next two years at FJHS will shape the students’ pathway to graduation of high school.

Stoddard emphasized the importance of the incoming seventh-graders being a part of their school community and encouraged them to join groups and clubs. Christopher Ells, FCSD Director of Health, Physical Education and Athletics, also was on hand to explain the modified sports program.

Upcoming transitional events the soon-to-be seventh-graders may look forward to, Stoddard, said, include the annual seventh-grade picnic in August and the 7-Up day in September, where seventh-graders have the entire school to themselves to explore their new school environment before the eighth graders join them the following day.
