That trifecta of support recently inspired Fulton Junior High School students to form chain reactions of kindness after Rachel’s Challenge presenter Alex Jackson shared Rachel’s story of courage and hope.

During their first year at FJHS, eighth graders had familiarized themselves with the story of Rachel Joy Scott, the first person killed in the Columbine High School tragedy on April 20, 1999.

This school year, they’ve been asked to lead by example, just as Rachel did with so many peers, strangers and family members.

Jackson told FJHS students they, too, can help make the world a better place by following a few simple steps: make the decision to accept people for who they are, don’t pass up an opportunity to do the right thing, never think it’s too late to mend broken relationships and always seek to inspire.

Scores of seventh grade and eighth grade students committed to just that during their lunch periods when they signed a Rachel’s Challenge banner, which will be displayed in a hallway in the school.

Beyond their signature, nearly 100 FJHS students took part in a leadership training where they learned tips from Jackson on participation in a successful Friends of Rachel Club.

Now that a culture of compassion has been re-established at the Fulton Junior High School, FOR Club members will work toward shedding positivity and love throughout the school and community.
