Fury Friends Bring a Smile to St. Francis Commons Residents

OSWEGO – If you stroll down the halls of St. Francis Commons in Oswego, you are apt to see friends visiting with residents, including friends of the “fury” variety!

Helen Schilling is just one resident who looks forward to a regular visit from “Dolly,” a friendly Shetland Sheep Dog owned by employee Elena Oldenberg.

“Dolly is so friendly and lovable, I look forward to seeing her every week,” said Schilling

And for her efforts, Dolly seldom goes unrewarded. During a recent visit around St. Francis Commons just about every room she stopped in resulted in an offer of a treat of some kind for the pup.

“We think it is important to be able to offer the opportunity for our residents to maintain a connection with animals if they choose to,” said Peg LiVoti, director of Activities at St. Francis Commons. “If you are an animal lover, a new address isn’t necessarily going to change that, and we make every effort to help our residents maintain those important connections that give us all a sense of joy.”

A part of The St. Luke Family of Caring, St. Francis Commons Assisted Living Residence is the newest phase of development on the St. Luke healthcare campus, located on the east side in the City of Oswego. The campus also includes St. Luke Health Services, Bishop’s Commons Enriched Living Residence and Little Lukes Childcare Center.
