Granby Students Dazzle With Ancient Egyptian Projects

Sixth grade students in Joe McNamara’s social studies classes at Granby Elementary recently studied a unit on Ancient Egypt and put their knowledge to the test by creating projects to mimic the ancient civilization.
After acquiring knowledge on specific Egyptian topics such as mummification, gods and goddesses and the building of the pyramids, students were asked to create a project that in some way reflected Ancient Egypt.
According to McNamara, each project needed to follow at least one of the five pillars of Ancient Egypt: geography, religion, culture, economy and government.
Students created an assortment of projects imitating some of the more famous monuments of Ancient Egypt, including pyramids, sarcophagi of famous Egyptian leaders and hieroglyphics.
McNamara said he couldn’t be more proud of how the students handled the project.
“We as a building are extremely proud of these sixth graders. Students and staff throughout the building have commented on how incredibly creative the projects are this year,” said McNamara. “As their teacher I couldn’t be more proud, as they went above and beyond all my expectations.”
Some students have volunteered to present their projects before the district’s board of education at a future date.
