How to reward a group of students who love to read? That was the question that Janet Hutcheson, Librarian at Granby Elementary School recently faced. Her solution? An evening filled with ice cream, snacks, games, swimming, gymnasium activities, arts and crafts projects, movies in the library, karaoke in the cafeteria and more. Hutcheson, along with parent and staff volunteers, organized the evening as a reward for the top accelerated readers at Granby Elementary School. Prizes were presented to the top 25 point earners including books and other donated items from Imagine Nation Books representative Bob Coant, as well as Books Are Fun and others.
The carnival atmosphere included popcorn, face painting and lots of music. Each student in attendance also was allowed to pick a book from many on a table in the cafeteria before leaving for the evening.
