Raider pride filled the Oasis banquet hall at Thunder Island recently as nearly 100 G. Ray Bodley High School athletes were recognized for their contributions, commitment, leadership and effort.

The year-end awards ceremony, sponsored by the Fulton Athletic Booster Club, provided coaches, parents and district representatives with an opportunity to honor 88 seniors who represented the school well on the field of play and in the classroom.
It also was a chance for local benefactors to award scholarships to seven deserving athletes.
Scholarships were presented to Connor Goss and Mikayla Guernsey (a $250 award to each in memory of Shirley Chalifoux); James Bailey (a $500 scholarship in memory of Rick Luciano); Sarah Halstead and Jeremy Langdon (the Mike Hogan scholarship); Mark Pollock (a $400 yearly award for four years in memory of Carl Barton); and Mikayla Guernsey (a $400 yearly award for four years in memory of Margaret Beckwith).

In addition to the scholarships, several special awards were also handed out during the ceremony.
The awards and winners included:
Judy and Dave Trepasso of the Year Award: Mary Elliott
Outstanding Athletic Performance Award: Mikayla Guernsey
Dan McGinnis Senior Athlete of the Year Award: Mark Pollock and Amelia Coakley
Barney Naioti Leadership Award: Paul Reynoso and Anna Guernsey
Joe Castiglia Effort Award: Carson Vono and Keisha Pierce

Gene Adams Most Improved Athlete Award: James Martin and Caitlin Chrisman
Sox Stuber Sportsmanship Award: Seth DeLisle and Casey Shannon
Dale Tombs Baseball Award: Jeremy Langdon
While the awards and scholarships were the focus of the night, athletes also received advice as they prepare for the next chapter of their lives.
Retired GRB biology teacher and longtime coach Marty Gillard, the keynote speaker, congratulated the athletes on their successes and encouraged them to be good people as they explore the world.
“Enjoy the challenges, appreciate and enjoy the journey you’re about to embark on … don’t worry too much about the destination,” he said. “You’ll get there.”
