Hannibal Eighth Graders Prepare For High School

HANNIBAL – With an eye toward high school education, Hannibal eighth graders recently learned about diploma options, extracurricular activities and course requirements during an informational session.

Incoming freshmen and their parents gathered in the Lockwood Auditorium for the annual transition night, which is designed to give students the knowledge and tools needed for a smooth transition from middle school to high school.

Members of the Hannibal High School Guidance Department were on hand to offer advice and insight to the soon-to-be freshmen class.

“Your actions as freshmen affect your senior year,” said guidance counselor Brooke Fingland. “Start out strong and don’t be afraid to ask for help. We have a great team here and we all want to help you be successful.”

High School Principal Stephen Dunn also stressed the collaborative approach to student achievement.

He noted that the faculty and staff work with students to develop a plan for academic success.

That success, Dunn said, culminates with a diploma.

“There are a tremendous amount of diploma options,” Dunn said. “Our goal is to work with our students so they earn a diploma that fits their learning style and needs.”

Dunn said students can learn more about diploma options and the transition to high school by contacting their guidance counselor.
