Hannibal Entrepreneurship Class Pitches Business Ideas

HANNIBAL – A project-based learning effort at Hannibal High School took a page out of ABC TV’s playbook with its own rendition of “Shark Tank.”

Like the show, students in the entrepreneurship class spent time conducting market research, developing business plans and creating logos and business cards that would attract potential clients.

Their efforts culminated in a business pitch to a panel of “sharks” who peppered the entrepreneurs with questions and weighed their investment options.

“The students are getting more real-world experience applying math applications and learning about business plans,” said teacher Roseann Inzalaco. “It really shows off who is good at negotiating and who might consider starting a real business in the future.”

Students showed off their work as they calculated risks, profitability and percentage of ownership while trying to strike a deal with the sharks.

Inzalaco noted she was proud of the students, whose business ideas ranged from daycare to animal rescue.

She said several local businesses including Travis Floral Shop, Village Pizzeria, Mike’s Meats and Kim’s Cafe opened their doors to the class and provided students with information about starting and running a small business.
