Head Start Preschool will begin taking applications for September 2010 by holding “Open Enrollment Days†throughout the county.
Families should bring their child’s birth certificate or Medicaid card, proof of 2009 income, and social security cards.
Head Start’s primary goal is promoting kindergarten readiness by enhancing the social and cognitive development of children through hands-on experiences. Classes are taught by teachers with degrees and experience in early childhood education. Centers are also staffed by family advocates, teaching assistants, classroom aides, cooks, and nurses. The program includes meals and snacks, encourages parent involvement, and provides family support.
Families who would like to be considered for initial class placement are encouraged to apply early. Waiting lists are maintained for openings that may occur throughout the school year. Families who are unable to attend the “Open Enrollment Day†may call 598-4711 to schedule an application.
Head Start Preschool is provided at no cost and is available to families with incomes at or below federally set guidelines. Head Start is the longest running national school-readiness program in the United States. Since 1999, more than 4,400 children have been students of Head Start Preschool in Oswego County. For more information or to complete an application please call 598-4711.
