Oswego County BOCES (OCB) recently held a Nursing Assistant Pinning Ceremony for graduates in the Career and Technical Education program who have successfully completed the class. Instructor Lori Giverson welcomed friends and family to the ceremony.
Director of Career and Technical Education and Alternative Programs at OCB, Ronald Camp, started the evening with a lighthearted joke saying, “‘Three nurses were standing around talking when the first nurse said, ‘My daughter went to UCLA and she has an M.B.A.’ The second nurse said, ‘Well, my daughter went to RIT and she has a PhD.’ The third nurse turned to them and said, ‘My daughter went to BOCES and she has a J-O-B!’â€ÂÂ
Camp, who often speaks about the motivation of students who attend OCB, said the joke represents the students because they have a desire to learn, to work hard and to succeed. He said students in the CTE programs have a goal in mind and OCB helps them focus on that goal and achieve it.
OCB Board of Education President John Shelmidine was the guest speaker. Shelmidine told the graduates they had chosen a noble and honorable field. He reminded the students that this was not an ending saying, “They call it a commencement ceremony because it represents a beginning.â€ÂÂ
Students received a Cadusa pin from their instructors and recited the Nightingale Pledge at the end of the ceremony.
