Words can hurt.
But, they can also heal.

That was one of several positive messages singer/songwriter Jared Campbell offered during his performances at Lanigan Elementary School.
He led uplifting discussions, with students in grades kindergarten through six, about overcoming odds, spreading kindness and lending a helping hand when peers and adults go through a rough time in their life.
Words, especially when combined with feel-good music, can help turn people’s days around, he said.
Lanigan staff members rocked out with him singing “Livin’ on a Prayer,” before students heard Campbell talk about the soundtrack of lives.

Songs often reflect key moments in one’s life.
His song, “January Snow,” about a girl who was picked on and struggled with her self-image decided to rise above the strife and live a confident life, moved a few students to tears.
Everyone, he said, is worthy of a good life.
Campbell then led students in an “I am awesome” chant at the conclusion of his performance.
