Joe Cortini Speaks At Fulton Sunrise Rotary Meeting

FULTON – Joe Cortini, owner of Cortini Shoe Zipper Canvas Repair, recently spoke to Fulton Sunrise Rotary about owning and operating a small business in the time of COVID-19.

Cortini was concerned he might have to shut his doors, but fortunately for CNY his services were deemed “essential” and the store remained open. In March of 2020 Cortini’s started making masks. He estimates that 3,000 of the 5,000 they manufactured were donated.

Many customers insisted on making donations for the free masks. This helped him keep his employees working during months of slower business. With online shopping and competition from product suppliers Cortini is concerned for the future of small businesses despite the benefit they provide to their communities.

For the past 10 years Cortini has been deeply involved in planning Fulton Jazz Festival. Bringing world class entertainment to our small community is his passion. During the meeting many members shared stories of their experiences and appreciation for this 100+ year old family business and the positive impact it has on Fulton.

Fulton Sunrise Rotary meets via Zoom on Friday mornings at 7 a.m. For information please contact Peg Donnelly at (315) 593-3746.
