HANNIBAL – Hannibal third-graders recently participated in a workshop that culminated in a theater performance that reinforced classroom and life lessons.

The arts-in-education program, presented by Merry-Go-Round Playhouse, told the story of “The Magic Paintbrush.”
The folktale is set in China and is about a woman who is gifted with a magic paintbrush that makes her paintings come to life.
The woman uses the paintbrush to help her fellow villagers, despite the evil emperor lobbying for her to do the opposite.

This is a great story that encourages people to make the right choice, even when the decision isn’t easy, according to third grade teachers said.
“It also talks about different cultures and languages, which is all part of the social studies curriculum,” added teacher Suzanne Jacobson.
