Local organizations throw support behind Coleman for family court judge

OSWEGO, NY – Organizations from around Oswego County have voiced their support of Lou Anne Rucynski Coleman for family court judge in recent weeks.

Coleman has been endorsed by Democratic committees from the city of Fulton and the town of Granby and most recently the county’s Democratic Action Women’s Network, DAWN.

In her statements to local Democrats, Coleman has outlined her experience as an attorney representing children, parents and grandparents in family court, and described her desire to improve the way family court functions and ensure that the decisions made in family court are in the best interest of the Oswego County’s children.

Fulton Democratic Committee Chairman Jim Rice was not surprised by the enthusiastic support Coleman is getting throughout the county.

“People recognize that Lou Anne’s dedication to Oswego County families goes well beyond the courtroom, as shown in her community and volunteer activities. She will serve as an excellent judge in Oswego County Family Court,” he said.

DAWN member Rita Hooper said, “Being a mother is part of what makes Lou Anne the right candidate for family court judge. Lou Anne has represented men and women equally in her practice, and when she speaks you can hear the enthusiasm she has for fairly enforcing the law in defense of Oswego County’s children.”

Born and raised in Oswego, Coleman is a mother of two and has more than 14 years of experience as an attorney.

She has advocated for children in Family Court, prosecuted criminals as an Assistant Oswego County District Attorney and served as Assistant City Attorney for the City of Oswego.

She has also taught public justice and business law at SUNY Oswego, where she graduated cum laude prior to obtaining her law degree from the Syracuse University College of Law.
