Pulaski Elementary students combined culinary, mathematics and reading comprehension learning to make loaves of bread from scratch, which were donated to a local food pantry.

Math AIS teacher Sally Oliver coordinated the event, setting up bread making stations that included bowls, flour, oil, etc.
Student groups of three or four fifth graders worked together to create the bread.
Each station included different size measuring cups but the same recipe, so the students had to utilize their math skills to determine how much of each ingredient they needed as well as work together to understand and implement the recipe directions correctly.

Giving the mix ample time to rise, the fourth graders assisted in shaping and baking the bread.
More than 20 loaves were donated to the local food pantry.
Each child was also given their own bread making kit to try with their parents at home.
