LVOC Tutor Orientation

Literacy Volunteers of Oswego County offered a tutor orientation on Tuesday held at Oswego County Opportunities, Inc Administrative Offices located at 239 Oneida St., Fulton.

This was an opportunity to learn more about adult literacy and its impact on you and the community.

Participants explored the possibility of becoming a tutor for adults in need of basic literacy (reading, writing and communication skills).

This was an informational session about the mission, volunteer opportunities, and impact of LVOC.

No prior teaching experience is necessary to become a tutor, but volunteers must be at least 18 years of age and have a high school diploma or equivalent.

All prospective volunteers must attend an orientation session prior to enrolling in training.

A schedule of training dates was provided at the orientation.

The need for volunteers in our community is great.

Tutors help adults improve their literacy skills to achieve their individual goals, such as securing employment, passing the U.S. Citizenship test, reading with their children, using community services and obtaining a GED.

Helping adults meet their literacy needs also promotes greater self-sufficiency and greater community involvement.
