OSWEGO – The Oswego Housing Development Council has selected Dennis Merlino and Patrick Waite to its board of directors in a unanimous vote at its annual October meeting.
Both Merlino and Waite had been members of the council prior to their promotion to directors.
Merlino and Waite will now join existing board members Paul Baxter, Steven Gaffney and Martin Webster and will serve under OHDC President Tammie Nipper and Vice President James Hotchkiss.
Serving low- to moderate-income Oswego County residents, OHDC assists with home purchases and housing rehabilitation as a Certified Housing Counseling Agency by providing counseling, grant money, administrative assistance and connections to local agencies.
It is OHDC’s mission to provide safe and affordable housing opportunities to community members in need.
Waite, a Fulton native, expressed his excitement about joining the board of directors, citing his “great passion to improve housing in Oswego County.”
Merlino, also from Fulton, said the OHDC shared his drive to take action to help others.
“A lot of people talk about improving our community, but I’m all about doing. OHDC and the other groups I’ve volunteered for over the years all share the same positive attitude and passion for getting out there and doing the hard work necessary to solve people’s problems,” said Merlino.
Oswego County residents interested in OHDC’s services, including down payment and closing cost assistance for first time home buyers and housing rehab assistance, can contact OHDC at (315) 625-4520.
