MEXICO – The Mexico Academy & Central School District sought to educate and motive students throughout the summer months to help them carry successes and achievements to the beginning of the 2017-2018 school year.

A couple hundred MACS students, from kindergartners up to high schoolers, enjoyed summer learning activities which targeted instruction, recovery of credits and/or social-emotional growth.
Both the elementary and middle school Summer Skills Academy, held at Mexico Middle School, emphasized English language arts and Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) lessons to help boost proficiency of Common Core learning standards for about 120 students.
Those students also participated in a summer reading challenge where they received various accolades and prizes with each goal achieved.

Summer School Principal Patrick Vrooman said those programs aimed to avoid the “summer slide” of academic progress before the start of the new school year.
Additional summer school programs included the MACS High School Grad Point program for students who sought to recover credits and the Special Education program, which served as an extended school year model to support about 30 students’ individual reading, math, social and emotional goals.
The Mexico Academy & Central School District has continued to inspire excellence in each of its students, even throughout the summer months.
