HANNIBAL – More than half of the student population at Dennis M. Kenney Middle School was recognized for attendance, academic excellence and achievement this quarter.

Students of Hannibal Middle School proudly display their certificates at a recent achievement celebration recognizing perfect attendance, honor roll, high honor roll or a five-point improvement in GPA since the last quarter.

The school holds two celebrations in the cafeteria: one for the seventh and eighth graders in the morning and one for the fifth and sixth graders in the afternoon.

This quarter, more than 130 students were honored during the morning celebration and more than 140 students celebrated in the afternoon, making a grand total of approximately 270 students.

Hannibal Middle School Principal Dee Froio said that the number of recipients have gone up every quarter since they started having the celebrations as rewards for the students’ hard work.

She encouraged the students to keep up and be positive examples for their friends.

“Not only are we moving in the right direction, but we are moving in a direction that is going to open up doors for each and every one of you,” Froio told the students.

Qualifying students are those who achieved perfect attendance, honor roll, high honor roll or those who improved their grade point average by five points or higher.

The students that were recognized enjoyed ice cream and other goodies.

Students’ names were randomly drawn for prizes such as Hannibal jackets and sports gear.
