Motorsports Fabrication Students Unveil Custom Choppers

High school students in the Motorsports Fabrication program at Oswego County BOCES culminated the 2011 – 2012 school year with the unveiling of three custom built mini choppers.

The students began the bike building project at the start of the school year as a research project where they each individually explored chopper components and developed a concept idea of a custom chopper.

Instructor Joseph Hawksby then organized the students into teams and the teams began working collectively to merge their individual design ideas and develop an overall chopper concept design.

A designated student leader was responsible for overseeing their team’s project as well as the manufacturing of each component and the final assembly.

The finished custom choppers were built to 5/8 scale and were completed just prior to the students’ last day on campus at the Burton Ramer Technical Career Center.

Motorsports Fabrication is one of nineteen Career and Technical Education programs offered at Oswego County BOCES.
