Nominate Your ‘Senior of the Year’ by Feb. 28

OSWEGO COUNTY – The Oswego County Office for the Aging (OFA) is looking for nominations for its 2025 Senior of the Year recognition. Seniors aged 60 and over who are active volunteers are eligible to be nominated until Friday, Feb. 28.

“Our seniors do so much for our communities through their volunteerism, and each year it is a joy to recognize them for their contributions,” said OFA Director Sara Sunday. “We are currently seeking nominations for our 2025 Senior of the Year, who will be celebrated during Older Americans Month in May.”

“The theme for this year’s celebration is ‘Flip the Script on Aging,’ which focuses on transforming how society perceives and talks about aging,” Sunday added. “It encourages individuals and communities to challenge stereotypes and dispel misconceptions through meaningful conversations about aging. If you know an older person deserving of the Senior of the Year recognition, we encourage you to submit a nomination form.”

Nomination forms are available at www.oswegocounty.com/ofa[1] under the “Downloadable Forms” link on the left. The form asks for basic information about the nominee and their volunteerism as well as a photo.

Once completed, submissions can be sent to the Oswego County Office for the Aging, 70 Bunner St., Oswego. If more than two nominations are received, the OFA advisory council appoints a committee to review nominations and make selections.

Each year, up to two seniors are recognized locally by the Oswego County Legislature with a certificate presentation at the group’s monthly meeting. All nominees will be acknowledged at the OFA Senior Picnic in August.

The New York State Office for the Aging (NYSOFA) will also host a recognition ceremony on Tuesday, May 27 at The Desmond Hotel in Albany.
