Open Skate, Smoke-Free Movie Planned

OSWEGO – Join the Tobacco Free Network of CNY and the Oswego County Traffic Safety Board on February 18 from 6 – 8 p.m. for free open skate and a free showing of the tobacco-free movie Despicable Me 3.

The Tobacco Free Network of CNY and the Oswego County Traffic Safety Board have partnered with the SUNY Oswego University Police and United Health Care to make this event possible.

The event will consist of raffles and activities to promote community wellness and smoke-free media.

“Giving an R rating to future movies with smoking would be expected to reduce the number of teen smokers by nearly 1 in 5 (18%), preventing up to 1 million deaths from smoking among children alive today,” said Joseph Wicks, Community Engagement Coordinator at Tobacco Free Network.

Despicable Me 3 is rated G for general Audiences and is a tobacco-free film.

The event will be held at the Marano Campus Center Ice Rink located on the SUNY Oswego college campus.

Parents are required to stay with their children for the duration of the evening; there will be no dropoffs permitted.

Walk-ins welcomed if space is available.
