OSWEGO – The city of Oswego is proud to host the annual Oswego Community Safety Day on Saturday June 9, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. next to the Oswego Fire Department headquarters.

The annual event features several local public safety and service agencies promoting their specific areas of expertise.

This popular event will be held rain or shine and will move indoors at the Oswego Fire Department if the weather is an issue.

More than 25 local agencies will be supporting the event this year, such as the Oswego Fire Department, Oswego Police Department, Oswego County Emergency Response Training Center, New York State Police, and the US Coast Guard.

The Oswego County Traffic Safety Board will be managing the popular Bike Rodeo at the event; a bicycle safety course that teaches kids the rules of the road and how to stay safe.

Car safety seats will also be an important area of focus for the traffic safety board at the event.

The Oswego County Stop DWI program will be back again on Saturday with the fatal vision karts and simulator.

Kids will be able to spray fire hoses, check out the apparatus, and climb through the realistic fire safety trailer.

OPD officer James LaDue and his K-9 partner, Crixus, will be on hand doing demonstrations as well.

Several other public service partners will be at the event with tables of information about how our residents can stay safe!

Oswego Mayor Billy Barlow said, “The Oswego Community Safety Day is a one-stop shop for kids, parents, and anyone that wants to learn how to stay safe. There is something for everyone at the event, and I appreciate all of our community partners coming together to make this event a big success. We also appreciate our friends at the county of Oswego who have graciously allowed us the use of the land for the event, offering a convenient, safe space for us to host.”

Oswego Fire Chief and Emergency Management Director Randy Griffin applauded the event.

“These types of events are a tremendous way to showcase our preparedness and capabilities in our area,” he said. “Large-scale emergencies require many agencies working together to secure good results, and many of those partner agencies will be at our event. We hope to see a large crowd at the event, having some fun and learning how to stay safe.”

Aside from the hands-on safety demonstrations, kids will be able to enjoy an air hop provided by GoodTimes of Oswego, and several prizes will be raffled off included 2 new child size bikes donated by the Kiwanis Club of Oswego.
