Students in Rich Rainville’s Auto Body Repair class at Oswego County BOCES put their skills and knowledge to the test for a timed classroom competition that simulated a day in the life of an auto body repair technician. Industry representatives and professionals from the collision repair field were on hand to observe the competition and judged the students on their performance of the skills they learned in the program throughout the school year.
During the nearly six hour challenge each student repaired a dinged and dented fender of a vehicle. Judges observed the students straightening, filling, sanding, priming and painting the fender and also completing a welding task using a MIG welder. In addition to the practical hands-on portion of the competition, the students completed a written test which featured questions about safety, terminology, and procedures.
