OSWEGO COUNTY – The Oswego County Oswego County Municipal Historians Association is sponsoring a photo contest this summer to celebrate the county’s history.
The finalists in several categories will be displayed in the Heritage Building at the Oswego County Fair in August.
Marie Strong, New Haven Town Historian, is chairing the photo contest.

“We’re looking for black and white and color photos that portray our county’s beauty and unique heritage,” said Strong. “The photos will be available to the town historians and the county tourism office for their use in displays and publications. Our local historians have selected a variety of categories that reflect important aspects of the county’s history.”
Entries must be submitted to the County Tourism Office by Aug. 4.
Horizontal and vertical photos will be judged in the following categories:
Agriculture; architecture; wildlife; scenic (landscapes, sunsets. seasons); recreation; the arts (music, drama, murals, etc.); monuments (cemeteries and public monuments); patriotic (veterans, flags, Americana); and historic ruins or relics (including old farm equipment and old vehicles).
The organizing committee will select up to 10 finalists in each category.
The final photos will be displayed in the Heritage Building at the Oswego County Fair in Sandy Creek from Aug. 9 to Aug. 13, where fairgoers may vote for their favorite in each category.
Winners will receive a gift pack from the Oswego County Tourism Office.
Entry forms and official contest rules are posted on the Oswego County Tourism site at www.visitoswegocounty.com.
Individuals may submit up to five photos each.
Each photo must be accompanied by an entry form.
Images should be a minimum of 300 dpi in jpg or png format, with a minimum size of 5 by 7 inches and a maximum size of 8 by 10 inches.
Images will not be returned.
Submissions will also be featured on the Oswego County Facebook page at www.facebook.com/visitoswegocounty.
