Those participants of the second cohort of the Oswego County Pathways in Technology Early College High School program will receive an academic booster of English language arts, algebra, living environment and global studies to help them stay on track when the fast-paced program starts back up in September.

Dubbed the “Jump Start” of P-TECH, the summer program will also emphasize building trust and relationships between teachers and students, classmates to classmates and a focus on a sense of community.

Jump Start also allows P-TECH staff members to assess each students’ skill level to lay a foundation for when the school year begins.

The program consists of 12 half days of academic challenges and lessons, and is followed by five full days of the P-TECH Bridge program.

Bridge provides more hands-on opportunities for students and serves as an introduction to P-TECH’s industry partners: Huhtamaki, Novelis, the Fulton companies and Sunoco.

P-TECH Principal Bill Lynch said the 40 students who are attending Jump Start were encouraged to attend, but are P-TECH students will be required to attend Bridge next month.

A total of 102 P-TECH students are expected in the fall.

P-TECH is an initiative focused on advanced manufacturing that’s helping to give students a head start when it comes to their future careers.

Housed at the Center for Instruction, Technology and Innovation, P-TECH allows students to simultaneously earn their high school diploma and their associate’s degree, plus allows them to be first in line for a job with local industry partners when they complete the program.
