FULTON, NY – Oswego Industries announces that it has been awarded a grant from the Richard S. Shineman Foundation to support the campaign to fund a major renovation project at its main campus, located on Morrill Place in Fulton.

The grant amount allocated to Oswego Industries is $125,000 and will support the renovation of a currently unoccupied building into an upgraded space to expand its community-based services, as well as a licensed childcare center open to the community.
The project will launch a complete overhaul of the building, located at 5 Morrill Place, and transform the space into a welcoming, secure early learning environment and a classroom area for vocational skills training.
“When Oswego Industries was looking to renovate this building, we realized that access to affordable childcare in an educational setting is a resource our community lacks,” said Laurie Davis, executive director of Oswego Industries.
“Waiting times to enroll an infant or toddler are very long and it can take many months to find a spot,” Davis added. “Revitalizing this space into an early-education center will ease stress on parents who need stable childcare and sustain our local economy by supporting working families and creating jobs.”
According to the US Department of Education’s White House Summit on Working Families (2014), “high-quality early learning and development programs can make a tremendous difference in the lives of working families and their children. A high-quality early learning and development program for a child gives parents the stability to be productive employees.”
“The Richard S. Shineman Foundation is thrilled to assist Oswego Industries with the launch of its capital campaign to raise the funding needed for their building’s renovation,” said Karen Goetz, executive director. “The dual-purpose renovation will not only build Oswego Industries’ vocational skills training capacity, it will also provide much-needed professional daycare for the community.”
Oswego Industries also has a plan in place to develop part of the renovated site into classroom space to present curriculum for community prevocational training which will include integrated settings for employment preparation, job readiness skill sessions, and volunteer opportunities.
This type of training would be offered to individuals who are ready to work but may need additional assistance with learning what it takes to be successful in a job or volunteer setting.
