PAWS of CNY, Inc., a provider of pet therapy to the Central New York area, has been recognized by Great Nonprofits as one of its “Top-Rated Nonprofit Organization in 2017.”
Great Nonprofits is the leading platform for community-sourced stories that tell about all the good nonprofit organizations have done for their communities, clients, donors and volunteers.
“This truly is a great honor to be recognized as a “Top-Rated Nonprofit Organization,” said Jessica Marabella, president of PAWS of CNY, Inc.
According to a study done by Software Advice, receiving a seal from Great Nonprofits is “the second most trusted rating seal, behind the Better Business Bureau.”
In order for an organization to win the “Top-Rated Nonprofit Organization” award, an organization must meet the following requirements.
First an organization must claim nonprofit status. Next it must invite clients, volunteers, and donors to share their personal stories about all the good that the organization has done for the community, they should receive at least 10 positive stories. Finally an organization must either keep an average rating of 3.5 stars or receive at least 10 four or five star ratings.
PAWS of CNY, Inc. has helped patients in nursing homes, hospitals, school children, and college students by sharing with them the practice of pet therapy and the services associate with it.
These services they provide include pet assisted therapies, pet assisted activities, youth reading programs, education programs, and coming to colleges for the students to interact with the pets to help them ease their stress over school work and finals.
In order for a person and their pet(s) to become volunteers for PAWS of CNY, Inc., volunteers, both human and pets, must go through and complete a certification program before they are allowed to participate in any of the available therapy or wellness program.
All dog and cat breeds involved within the organization are obedient and temperament-tested bi-annually in order to maintain their certification.
With more than 200 volunteers across the Onondaga, Oswego, Cortland, Madison, and Cayuga counties, PAWS of CNY has brought joy to all 55 facilities in Central New York they visit and offer their services to.
“For us, the most meaningful part of earning the Top-Rated Award is knowing that we’ve had so many volunteers, partners and community members willing to share their experiences and rate those experiences with our organization so highly,” said Marabella. “This award helps us validate the work that we do every day and proves to us that we are meeting our goal of improving the lives of those in need.”
“I would like to thank Great Nonprofits for recognizing us as a Top-Rated Nonprofit organization. I would also like to thank the communities of Central New York, for allowing us to share with them our therapy pets and welcoming us into their facilities,” she added. “Of course, I also want to thank our wonderful volunteers, and their amazing pets. They have made what we do that much special, and we could not exist without them.”
