Porky and Buddy Pet Health – Animal Abuse Registry Details

by Contributor | March 14, 2018 6:34 am

Dear Porky & Buddy,
Could you please send me information on how I can get the names of the people on the Animal Abuse Registry?

I just need maybe a website or anything to help me find this information.

They have slithered out of sight and I hope I can put them in the spotlight.

Carol

Dear Carol,
We couldn’t agree with you more that this information should be easily accessible to anyone who is interested in animal welfare.

Unfortunately, this information in New York State is not so easily accessed as there is no state-wide law.

As of now, 12 upstate counties (the closest being Onondaga County) and all of the boroughs of New York City have their own county or city-wide registries, together with local laws prohibiting the sale or adoption of animals to anyone on the registry in that county.

You can find the up to date listing and useful links at www.nyshumane.org.

For the second year in a row, bills have been introduced in the New York State Assembly and Senate to create a statewide animal abuse registry.

There are several.

A317/S2558 would create an animal cruelty data base for all animal convictions; information would be available to all law enforcement entities, animal control officers, district attorneys, humane societies and animal rescue groups.

You can find all of the bills listed together with links about how to advocate for them on the National Anti-Vivisection Society website:
www.navs.org.

All are in the various stages of the committee process now, but we will continue to report about what needs to be done.

And for now – for animal lovers, the Fur Ball is coming up on April 28 from 5:30 to 11 p.m. at the American Foundry, West Seneca Street, Oswego.

A plated dinner, cocktail hour, music and dancing, fabulous silent auction, more fun than a litter of puppies and kittens!

Well maybe not, but still a lot of fun.

Watch for your invitation in the mail or buy tickets at www.oswegohumane.org.
